RCS ROUND 2 REPORT FROM GELLERÅSEN
MOMO Radical Cup Scandinavia witnessed a thrilling and eventful race weekend at Gelleråsen Arena, marked by changing weather conditions and intense on-track battles. Stevan Petrovic emerged as a standout performer, overcoming several challenges to claim significant victories and shake up the championship standings.
Race 1: A Race to Forget for Petrovic
The weekend began under challenging conditions as a sudden downpour hit Gelleråsen Arena just before the start of Race 1. All teams quickly switched to wet tyres, and the race began with Johan Leander taking an early lead, displaying confidence in the rain. However, the treacherous conditions led to several incidents, including Torbjörn Hallenheim and Jesper Fristed sliding off the track, which prompted a safety car deployment.
For Stevan Petrovic, it was a tough start to the weekend. Balance issues during Friday’s testing and a small spin meant missing much of the second test session. Qualifying was also problematic due to brake issues, which persisted into Race 1. Petrovic had a poor start, losing a position to Ludvig Bäck. Midway through the race, a sensor issue forced Petrovic to nurse the car home, finishing P7, two laps down.
Race 2: Petrovic Storms to Victory
Race 2 saw Stevan Petrovic deliver a commanding performance. Starting from P3, Petrovic swiftly moved into the lead by the first corner, overtaking pole sitter Johan Leander after a lockup sent Leander wide. This allowed Petrovic to seize the inside line and take the lead. Erlend Olsen, starting from P2, lost ground after being caught up in the incident, which allowed Jørn Martin Aalerud to slip into third.
Despite the previous day’s challenges, Petrovic built a gap and held it for the rest of the race, securing his first win of the weekend. Erlend Olsen finished fourth, unable to recover the positions lost early on.
Race 3: Tight Racing as Petrovic Wins Again
The final race of the weekend took place under ideal racing conditions, with clear skies and temperatures at 25 degrees Celsius. Erlend Olsen started from pole position, with Johan Leander alongside him. Stevan Petrovic, starting from P3, executed a perfect start and quickly overtook Leander before setting his sights on Olsen.
Race 3 was tough but rewarding for Petrovic. He made a great start, gaining a place going into Turn 1. A fierce battle ensued with Erlend Olsen for the lead. Petrovic managed to overtake Olsen going into the hairpin with a couple of laps to go, securing his second win of the weekend.
Championship Standings Update
Despite a rocky start to the weekend, Stevan Petrovic’s resilience and skill led to two victories out of three races, propelling him to the top of the championship standings. With 76 points over the weekend, Petrovic now leads the table, overtaking Erik Stillman. Erlend Juan Olsen, with consistent performances, climbs to third place, securing the highest points of the weekend with 81.
